SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – An 81-year-old woman who was struck by a pick-up truck at Phelps Memorial Hospital Wednesday has died from her injuries, Sleepy Hollow police said.
?Sleepy Hollow Police Chief Gregory Camp said the woman, a Croton resident, died around 1 p.m. Wednesday.
The name of the woman is not being released at this time. No charges have been filed against the driver, Camp said, adding the investigation is still ongoing.
The woman suffered “trauma to the lower extremities as well as a head injury,” according to Chief Gregory Camp.
The truck hit the woman between the 755 Building and the parking garage on the hospital campus around 9 a.m. The Sleepy Hollow Ambulance Corps took the woman to the emergency room.
Police say the truck, equipped with a plow and sander, was being driven by a hospital employee.
Phelps Memorial Hospital, in a statement, said it was saddened by the death of a member of its volunteer staff. “We are deeply saddened and distressed by the tragic accident that occurred on our hospital grounds this morning that involved a member of our volunteer staff," a statement sent by Mary Sernatinger, hospital spokesperson, said. "Our hearts go out to the family of this wonderful woman who has been a valued volunteer for many years. We are cooperating fully with the police who are investigating this matter.”
