Berinzon Moronta was 16 when he killed 17-year-old Tahj Robinson, Acting District Attorney James A. McCarty said.
Robinson, an aspiring musician and athlete, had moved out of Westchester and was living with relatives in New Jersey, according to multiple media reports.
He was found bleeding from stab wounds in the village’s Barnhart Park at Andrews Lane and Elm Street last October and taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla where he was pronounced dead.
According to McCarty, Moronta and several others had gone to the park that night intending to injure Robinson.
Moronta stabbed Robinson in the torso multiple times, puncturing his heart and lungs, the acting district attorney said.
He was arrested the next day in Yonkers after an investigation by Westchester County Police and the Sleepy Hollow Police Department.
First-degree manslaughter is a class B violent felony, McCarty said.
He now faces 25 years to life behind bars when sentenced in September.
Assistant District Attorneys Laura Murphy and Joseph Servino of the Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
