Tarrytown Man Charged In Fatal Armed Robbery In Yonkers

YONKERS. N.Y. -- Three men were charged -- two with murder -- in the May death of a city man killed outside his apartment building, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore announced Wednesday.

Keith Thigpen, 20, of  177 White Plains Road, Tarrytown, Adam Kirkland, 21, of 295 E. 4th St., Mount Vernon, and Eric Chappelle, 20, were charged in connection with the death of Henry DeMatteo in a fatal armed robbery.

Thigpen and Kirkland each were charged with second-degree murder. All three men were charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary and second-degree robbery.

At about 7:15 p.m. May 18, Yonkers police responded to 6 Winnebago Road, where they found DeMatteo, 49, collapsed outside his apartment building with a stab wound to the chest. He was rushed to Lawrence Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Thigpen, Kirkland and Chappelle were arrested later that night near the scene of the crime, police said. Thigpen and Kirkland were found in possession of some of the victim’s belongings when they were taken into custody, police said. The alleged murder weapon, a knife, also was recovered, police said.

Chappelle's bail was set at $50,000 cash/bond.

Thigpen's and Kirkland's bail information was not available.

Thigpen and Kirkland each face a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison on the murder charge.

Chappelle faces a maximum of 25 years in state prison.

Assistant District Attorney Lana Hocheiser is prosecuting the case.
