TARRYTOWN, N.Y. Tarrytown police charged a 19-year-old woman with driving while intoxicated after her car struck a utility pole, downed live wires, damaged several road signs and shut down the roadway to traffic.
Caroline Ellis, 19, was charged with the misdemeanor after the accident near 303 S. Broadway around 3:30 a.m. on July 21. Ellis and a passenger in her car were taken to the Phelps Memorial Hospital Center after the accident, police said.
Police say the accident caused live wires to fall onto South Broadway. Officials closed down the road while Con Edison repaired them and the state Transportation Department was notified about several damaged signs.
Ellis refused to submit to a blood alcohol content test, police said.

Police assisted a blind woman who had lost her bearings after she was spotted walking in the middle of White Plains Road around 3 p.m., July 22.
A deer was struck by a car on Martling Avenue around 9 a.m., July 22. Police later found the dead deer on Benedict Avenue.
A Martling Avenue resident reported someone was yelling obscenities and screaming at the people walking by her home around 10:30 a.m., July 21.
A Eunice Court resident called police after spotting some raccoons that were possibly sick around 7 p.m., July 20. Greenburgh Animal Control responded and said the raccoons did not appear to be sick based on the man's description.
A Walden Road resident told police on July 19 he believed his neighbor had purposely gone onto his lawn and sprayed weed killer on it to create a spot of dead grass.
