THORNWOOD, N.Y. -- Chase Bank on Marble Avenue was closed Friday afternoon following an apparent robbery.

Police from Pleasantville, Mount Pleasant and Westchester County departments were at the scene, where crime tape and a sign telling customers the bank was temporarily closed was posted.

A helicopter hovered overhead about 1:30 p.m. Westchester County police dispatched an Aviation Unit helicopter to assist in the search.

Kieran O'Leary, a spokesman for the County Department of Public Safety said, "We did send some officers, including one with a tracking canine, in the immediate aftermath to assist in the search. But the ongoing investigation is strictly Mount Pleasant."

Eyewitnesses near the bank said an unarmed Hispanic male reportedly fled on foot. A county patrol officer was inside the Pleasantville McDonald's restaurant communicating with other officers by radio shortly after the robbery.

The Pleasantville School District and Mount Pleasant School District were both briefly placed on lockdown following the incident.

"This afternoon, police activity surrounding a situation at Four Corners in Thornwood caused us to delay dismissal for safety purposes for a short period of time," Eileen Farrell of the Mount Pleasant School District said. "We were notified that the situation was resolved and to resume normal activity."

The bank is within easy access to the Saw Mill River Parkway near Thornwood's border with Pleasantville.

Police did not say how much, if any money the suspect got away with.

Mount Pleasant police released more details about the suspect late Friday afternoon as reported here.
