Irvington Girl Still Critical After Old Croton Aqueduct Accident

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – An 11-year-old Irvington girl remained in critical condition Friday at the Westchester County Medical Center with injuries received last week when she was struck by a tree branch on the Old Croton Aqueduct.

The girl and her father were walking in the state park near the Tarrytown-Irvington border on Saturday, Sept. 8, when a thunderstorm caused a tree to fall on the pair around 5:47 p.m., Tarrytown police said.

Police did not release their names.

The father was able to get his daughter to West Sunnyside Lane, where a passing driver picked them up, Tarrytown police said. They were taken to the Irvington Fire Department.

Members of the Irvington Volunteer Ambulance Corps then took them to the Westchester County Medical Center, where the girl was put on a ventilator.

State Parks spokesperson Dan Keefe said the girl was still listed in critical condition on Friday.
