Members of the Greenburgh Police Street Crime Unit completed a short-term investigation this week into the Unauthorized Practice of a Profession occurring at two massage establishments within the township.
Nine people were charged with violating New York State Education Law Unlicensed Practice of a Profession.
And eight were charged with felony Unauthorized Practice of a Profession for knowingly and unlawfully pretending to be licensed massage therapists without having state licenses, according to Greenburgh Police Chief Chiris McNerney.
Two people were additionally charged with violating state Education Law for aiding and abetting three or more unlicensed persons to practice a profession, a felony charge.
Both establishments were cited for several town code violations by the Greenburgh Building Department and closed down, McNerney said.
Arrested at the Scarsdale Foot Massage- 734 South Central Ave., in Scarsdale were: Wen Tao Song, 36, Hong Lan Wang, 36, Shanghai Gao, 43, Lan Ling Sun, 26, and Qiuxian Lin, 43.
Arrested at Foot Relaxation- 1113 South Central Ave., in Scarsdale were: Xi De Xu, 59, Wei Wang, 24, Zi Guo Lin, 52, Xiang Man Zhang, 50, and Guihua Zhou, 43.
All the suspects were taken to Greenburgh Police Headquarters where they were booked, processed and released on bail, McNerney said.
This week's arrests were the latest in a year-long town crackdown on suspected massage parlors.
Others were arrested at illegal parlors in August along Tarrytown Road (Route 119) as reported here, and in other Hartsdale and Scarsdale locations in March as reported here.
