Joseph Schrettner, 81, Worked For Phelps Memorial Hospital In Tarrytown

TAPPAN, N.Y. - Joseph Schrettner of Tappan died Sept. 25. He was 81.

Schrettner was born Feb. 10, 1932, in North Hampton, Pa., to Anna and William Schrettner. He grew up in Manhattan and moved to Tappan in 1965. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a corporal. He was a patrolman and sergeant in the New York Police Department, serving in the Midtown South Communications, NYPD Planning Department, 34th and 44th precincts, retiring after 22 years. He served as director of Criminal Justice Services for the State of New York. He also was the director of Security for Phelps Memorial Hospital in Tarrytown. He was a parishioner at the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan, assisting the parish with collection reporting. He was member of the Knight of Columbus and the American Legion.

Schrettner is survived by his children, Joseph and Mary Cucinello; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Ann (Keitha).

Calling hours are Friday, Sept. 27 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Moritz Funeral Home in Tappan. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church in Tappan with burial to follow at F.W. Loescher Veterans Cemetery.
