TARRYTOWN, N.Y. Gertrude "Trudy" Vrabel, a former Tarrytown resident, died Sept. 20 at Vassar Medical Center. She was 77.
Vrabel was born July 11, 1935, in Oberndorf, Austria. She met and married John P. Vrabel while working as a kindergarten teacher during World War II. He was stationed near her hometown with the U.S. Army.
After the war, they moved to the U.S. and lived in Tarrytown. They spent the majority of their lives in Tarrytown until buying a home in Dover Plains, N.Y.
Vrabel is survived by a son, John P. (Lynda) Vrabel; a daughter, Rosemary Vrabel (James) Moretti; three granddaughters and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, a sister and several nieces, nephews and cousins in Austria.
She was predeceased by her husband and a brother, Bernhard Koppelstatter.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
