Gerald Smith, 88, Of Tarrytown, Retired From Nypd

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Gerald Smith, a longtime Tarrytown and Ardsley resident, died Tuesday, Oct. 16. He was 88.

Smith was born June 22, 1924, in the Bronx to Gerald and Edna McDonald Smith. He served in the Army Air Forces during World War II. A retired New York Police Department officer, Smith also worked as an engineer for Metro-North Railroad for 50 years.

He was a member of American Legion Post 458 in Ardsley and Elks Lodge BPOE 707 in Mount Vernon.

Smith is survived by a daughter, Catherine (James) Appel of Mamaroneck; and a granddaughter. He was predeceased by his wife, Grace, in 2008; and a son, Gerald, in 2001.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown. Funeral services will be private.
