Young Artists From the Tarrytowns Display Work

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- It’s hard to showcase your artwork when the wind blows it off the table, but several young artists managed to pull it off with a little ingenuity, some rocks and a few roles of scotch tape.

Zachary Kaczmarek was the exception: he had conveniently put all of his work into picture frames. Kaczmarek’s art was also one of the more unusual exhibits because he didn’t just paint or draw them. His colorful and fanciful art, which can be viewed on his DeviantArt page, is more technologically advanced.

“I do a mixture of traditional art and digital art,” he said, noting that sometimes he’ll go into other mediums such as paint.

Kaczmarek’s art can sometimes take an hour or two to complete—but one of the pieces he displayed took three days to finish.

Five artists, ranging in age from 10 to 15, showcased their work at the second annual Young Artists Exhibit in front of Warner Library. Exhibits featured digital drawing, paint, sketches and watercolors. Each artist took over a booth and displayed several of their pieces for parents, library staff, passers-by and the other artists.

“It’s really intended to just allow the students to feel good about their creativity and get used to presenting themselves to people and also talking about their work,” Young Adult Librarian Elizabeth Siracusa said.

Kaczmarek’s favorite piece that he was displayed was drawn by his friend, who was also showcasing her artwork just one table away.

“She’s an amazing artist,” he said.
