Which Village is Prettier: Tarrytown or Irvington?

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Forbes may think Tarrytown deserves a slot on its list of “America's Prettiest Towns,” but our Irvington readers would beg to disagree.

“Irvington is prettier yet!” Tom Hannon wrote on The Daily Tarrytown's facebook page. Fellow reader Michael Fluchere agreed. “I'm going to side with Tom,” he wrote.

Irvington was named “The Best Place to Live” by Westchester Magazine in 2010, which described it as “Charming, quiet, green, with a darling Main Street” and “stunning river views.” Tarrytown scored the No. 15 spot in that same ranking.

Forbes cited Tarrytown's “rich history,” including famed author Washington Irving, the Underground Railroad and robber baron mansions such as Jay Gould's Lyndhurst in choosing it for the “Prettiest Town” honor.

Which would you say is the prettier town? Does Irvington deserve some recognition for its small-town charm, or is Tarrytown the clear winner?
