Vandals Hit Tarrytown Park, Damage Equipment

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Vandals struck a Tarrytown park, wreaking havoc on park and school equipment.

Someone or some people turned over the benches, garbage cans, a toilet and bleachers at Lagana Field on Sheldon Avenue near the Elizabeth Mascia Child Care Center overnight on May 6, police said.

A shed owned by the child care center was also damaged.

Police filed a criminal mischief report.

Police also reported the following items:

Resisting arrest: Police charged Jessi L. Valdes, 27, with resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and several traffic violations after she refused to get out of her car during a traffic stop on Depot Plaza at about 11 a.m. May 4.

Bicyclist hit: A bicyclist traveling on South Broadway was hit by a car near the DoubleTree Hotel at about 2:30 p.m. May 6. The bicyclist was taken to Westchester Medical Center.

Train Fire: Tarrytown firefighters extinguished a fire on a southbound Metro-North train at about 1 p.m. May 6.

Aggressive driver: A woman walking to the Tarrytown train station reported that a black SUV sped up toward her while she was in the crosswalk at about 8 p.m. May 5.

Gas leak: Tarrytown firefighters forcibly entered several homes on Highland Avenue at about 10:30 a.m. May 4 after reports of a gas leak.

Criminal trespass: Police charged a 17-year-old with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and third-degree criminal trespass, a misdemeanor, after finding him inside a trailer in the Tarrytown Fire Training Center on Green Street on May 3.

Forgotten car: A woman called police at about 9 a.m. May 3 to say her car was possibly stolen overnight at the South Washington Street Lot, but she later found the car in front of PayHalf on North Broadway.
