Things to do in The Tarrytowns This Weekend

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — There's no reason to leave the Tarrytown area this weekend if you're looking for something to do. Here's a list of weekend events in Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Irvington.

Friday

Slapering Hol Press Second Friday Reading Series at the Hudson Valley Writers' Center at 7:30 p.m. Sixth Annual Poets and Writers on War and Peace. Admission is $5.

Civil War 150th Anniversary Exhibit at the Sleepy Hollow-Tarrytown Historical Society. 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jacob Odell House at 1 Grove St. in Tarrytown.

SuperTonic Songwriters Circle at the Black Cat Cafe in Irvington at 6 p.m.

Piano Bar at Bistro Z at the Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown. 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Saturday

“Once Upon a Time: The Stories of the Brothers Grimm and Washington Irving” at the Irvington Historical Society. 1 p.m.

Kayaking: Rent a kayak between noon and 5 p.m. on the Tarrytown Lakes Saturdays and Sundays. Instruction available 9 a.m. to noon by appointment. Call 682-5135 or visit www.KayakHudson.com.

Alice in Wonderland at the Tarrytown Music Hall at 11 a.m. Performed by the Random Farms Kids' Youth Theater Company.

Tarrytown Farmers Market at Patriot's Park. 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market is held every Saturday through Thanksgiving and draws together farmers and artisan foods producers from around New York State, selling fresh fruit and produce, chicken, eggs, cheese, baked goods and more. The market also features live music, children's activities, plus representatives from a multitude of community groups. It's the place to shop, meet up with your neighbors and find out what's going on in the village.

Meredith Trade discusses her new book “Field Theory” at Warner Library at 2 p.m.

Mongolia, The Empire of Genghis Khan at the Irvington Public Library at 2 p.m. The event features a slide tour of Mongolia.

Sunday

The Really Terrible Orchestra of Westchester performs at Warner Library at 2:30 p.m.
