TARRYTOWN, N.Y. It's one thing to find a newspaper in your yard, and quite another to discover your favorite plant pulled up and thrown onto the lawn.
Tarrytown police received three calls from homeowners on Neperan Road on Feb. 12 reporting some criminal mischief had taken place. They had all found that someone had destroyed their landscaping overnight.
One homeowner told police around 10 a.m. that numerous shrubs and bushes had been thrown onto her yard. A second person reported around noon that her bushes had been pulled out of the ground and thrown onto her yard.
A third homeowner reported around 6 p.m. that eight plants had been pulled out from his property, damaging his landscaping.
Police noted each incident for the record.
Police also reported the following items:
YMCA Theft
Approximately $700 was reported stolen from a woman's purse while it was in a locker at the YMCA around 8:30 p.m. on Feb. 15. Police filed a petit larceny case.
Marijuana Busts
Tarrytown police charged a man with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, after stopping his car on South Broadway around 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 10. Police also arrested and charged two men with criminal possession of marijuana, a violation, after police found them in the parking lot of T.G.I. Friday's on White Plains Road around 6 p.m. on Feb. 13.
Gas Odor
Firefighters and Con Edison responded to a potential gas leak on Main Street at around 5 p.m. on Feb. 11. Con Edison disconnected a malfunctioning water heater in the basement.
iPads Stolen
Two iPads were reported stolen at the Double Tree Hotel around 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 10.
Severed Finger
A woman's left ring finger was severed while she was helping a contractor at a building on North Broadway around noon on Feb. 10. Emergency responders took the woman to the Westchester Medical Center.
Payment Dispute
The Hess Gas Station called police to report that a customer had pumped $200 worth of diesel gas and was refusing to pay at around 3 p.m. on Feb. 9. Police found the man's credit card had been declined at the pump and he did not want to pay out of pocket, but he did pay for the gas before they got there.
Grand Larceny Arrest
Tarrytown police arrested and charged 30-year-old Daniel Shamir with grand larceny, a felony, around 8 a.m. on Feb. 8 when the Double Tree Hotel reported that some items had been stolen. Shamir remains in the Westchester County Jail on $10,000 bail.
