Tarrytown Man Arrested for Stealing Syringes

A Tarrytown man was arrested Friday morning and charged with stealing syringes from a resident at the Tarrytown YMCA.

Police charged Donovan Sherrod, 37, with  second-degree burglary. A second charge of petit larceny is being added, according to Lieutenant William Herguth.

Police say Sherrod took $500 worth of legally-owned syringes from a resident at the YMCA on May 15. Herguth said the resident left his room and locked it. When he came back, he found Sherrod, who is also a resident at the YMCA, in his room.

Sherrod has not yet been arraigned. Herguth said Sherrod would most likely be arraigned Wednesday when he makes his first appearance in Tarrytown Justice Court.

A representative from the YMCA declined to comment Friday, saying the incident was a private matter.
