Tarrytown Fire Company Sells Christmas Trees

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – How much is that Christmas tree in the firehouse?

“$10 a foot,” said Tarrytown Fire Captain Bill Logan Jr.

The Riverside Hose Company is once again selling Christmas trees to raise money for the restoration of its antique 1965 anniversary edition Seagrave fire truck. Logan said 100 percent of the amount raised through the fundraiser will be used to help restore the truck.

“It's like a piece of history,” Logan said when asked why Riverside was restoring the truck. “It meant a lot to our company.”

The truck had been gone for about 25 years, Logan said. The fire company found it in California two years ago and brought it back to Tarrytown. The truck is about 85 percent restored, Logan said.

The tree fundraiser kicked off on Saturday and Logan said 30 trees had been sold so far. He said the company expects business to pick up over the weekend.

Riverside will be selling Christmas trees “until we sell out,” Logan said, later adding he thinks it will be the week before Christmas. Customers can stop by the firehouse on Mondays from 5 to 9 p.m., Friday from 5 to 10 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The fire company is selling two kinds of trees: Fraser firs and Balsam firs. All trees are premium grade and are shipped from Canada, Logan said.

“When you come down and purchase a tree, we give you a fresh cut, we give you a tree removal bag and we'll tie it to your car,” he said.
