Tarrytown Considers Parking for Mason's Lot

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. — Plans to add more municipal parking near Main Street are underway as Tarrytown looks to announce bids for the Mason’s Lot at the end of September—provided the plans are approved by the village trustees.

If the proposal is approved, it would be only a month to a month-and-a-half of construction for the lot to be finished, Village Engineer Michael J. McGarvey said.

McGarvey discussed the plans during a public information meeting on Monday. The proposed plans would add 24-25 parking spaces to the village off of South Washington behind the fire department’s building. Some spots would be designated as compact car-only. A pay station would be installed in the lot instead of meters, McGarvey said.

The village would need to make drainage improvements to help the water get out quicker. Privacy fencing would also need to be added since the lot sits next to a few houses. A flower bed and a concrete wall would also be added.

McGarvey said there would be a pedestrian pathway to the YMCA lot. And because of an agreement with the YMCA, Village Administrator Michael Blau said that pedestrians will have another access point to Main Street by walking on the pathway between the YMCA. The village looked at adding a vehicular pathway to the YMCA, but Blau said too many parking spaces would be lost.

“Once this is approved, we still have to sit down with the masons and approve the wall,” Blau said.
