Village offices in Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Irvington will be closed, as well as the Warner Library and the Irvington Public Library. Classes will not be held at the public schools of the Tarrytowns, Pocantico Hills Central School District, Irvington Union Free School District, Transfiguration School or The Hackley School.
The Foster Memorial AME Zion Church, 90 Wildey St. in Tarrytown, will hold its annual interfaith MLK Day service at noon. Residents who want to attend the popular service should arrive early to get seats.
The Westchester Library System's annual Literary Tea will kick off Black History Month at Abigail Kirsch's Tappan Hill in Tarrytown from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Author and Businessweek editor Diane Brady will speak about her book "Fraternity," the story of five young black men at a college in 1968. Tickets for the event are $95.
Several volunteer opportunities are available for residents wishing to take part in the national Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Vist http://mlkday.gov to search for area projects. The Volunteer Center of United Way is also hosting several Tarrytown-area events.
