TARRYTOWN, N.Y. Tarrytown trustees unanimously approved the creation of a new parking district near the train station that will eliminate unrestricted parking on both sides of Division Street.
The installation of parking meters will take place once the village installs a pay station in its McKeel Avenue lot during the spring. The meters currently in use at McKeel will be reformatted with 12-hour limits and moved to Division Street.
The affected area stretches from the intersection of the northwest leg of the H-Bridge to the village line on both sides of the street.
The change was made after a recommendation from Police Chief Scott Brown, who noted in an email to Village Administrator Michael Blau that Metro North commuters were using the street because it had unrestricted parking. Brown noted area businesses do not use the street parking and that public works employees use a lot behind the village departments garage.
We have the meters, we might as well put them to use, Scott wrote. There is no reason we should be providing free parking for these individuals.
