SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. Water rates are going up again, Sleepy Hollow.
The Board of Trustees will soon see a resolution to raise water rates because New York City has raised its own rates for water by 5.6 percent. Village Administrator Anthony Giaccio said the increase would be about five percent.
Although this weeks Board of Trustees agenda has not yet been posted, Giaccio said he believes the issue will be taken up Tuesday night. The board is expected to approve the resolution in accordance with its own practice of passing on the costs of paying for water.
Theres no other change for us, Mayor Ken Wray said during the July 19 work session. Were not tacking on something to thatjust passing on the actual increase.
Trustee David Schroedel noted that New York City raised its rates effective July 1, so we are already paying the higher rate. Schroedel is Chair of the Finance Committee, which oversees the rate increase. He brought the rate increase to the attention of the board last week.
Wray emphasized the fact that the village has no control over the rates that New York City charges for its water. He also pointed out that this years increase was significantly lower than in the previous two years.
Its still a real cost, he said. What we pass on to residents is the actual increase in what were paying for the water itself.
Wray did not foresee any more discussion on the matter because its always been the boards policy to pass on the cost of water and the issue was straightforward, he noted during the work session.
