Sleepy Hollow Robotics Team Qualifies For State

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – A robotics team at Sleepy Hollow Middle School has done so well in its first year of competition that they're going to the state tournament this Saturday.

The Sleepy Hollow Headless Horse-Bots recently took home second place at the Hudson Valley qualifying tournament, receiving awards for robot performance, sportsmanship and core values.

Team members include Katie Miles, Diego Arias, Alex Wills, Emma Tucker, Lance Evans, Alli DeCola-Judge and “Horse-Bot,” their robot.

The team consists of sixth and seventh-graders who compete in the FIRST Lego League competitions, where they must measure, design, engineer and strategize in order to win. Students are sponsored by Philips Research North America, who supply funding and advice. Teachers Michael Garguilo and Dana Pompa, as well as Philips' Abigail Flower have been teaching and encouraging students.

The state tournament will take place on Saturday at Dutchess Community College.
