Sleepy Hollow Park To Park Day Sees Large Crowd

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – The first of three Park to Park days was a success even with two minor snags, Sleepy Hollow Trustee Susan MacFarlane said.

“We had a steady stream of people walking between the RiverWalk in Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow through to Kingsland Point Park and back,” MacFarlane said. “I think people really appreciated being able to walk along that stretch of the Hudson that's been closed off for so long.”

The Park to Park Days are part of an agreement between the village and General Motors, where a riverfront section of the old GM lot is opened up to pedestrians, bicyclists and runners for three Sundays. The lot normally is closed to the public except for special events, such as the Sleepy Hollow Sprint Triathlon.

MacFarlane, who is on the village's Recreation and Parks Committee, said no injuries or incidents during the first Park to Park Day Aug. 12. However, the park was opened a few minutes later than planned and a lighthouse tour had to be cancelled.

Two more park days are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 19 and Sept. 9 A lighthouse tour will be available from 1-3 p.m. Aug. 19.
