Sleepy Hollow Name Change, Incorporation Anniversaries Coming Up

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Sleepy Hollow will celebrate two anniversaries in December: its incorporation and its renaming from North Tarrytown to Sleepy Hollow.

Mayor Ken Wray announced the 15th anniversary of the village's renaming on Dec. 10. “Some folks celebrate, some folks mourn,” he said noting the anniversary. Dec. 12 marks the 136th anniversary of the village's incorporation.

Wray said the village would be celebrating both events by ringing the bells of the Old Dutch Church at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 10. A small reception will be held after the bell ringing at Village Hall.

“It's 7:30 in the dark, in the cemetery, in the church, which should be fun,” Wray said noting that the church has no electricity. “It's kind of cool to be in there in candlelight.”
