Sleepy Hollow Honors Martin Luther King Jr. Monday

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Martin Luther King Jr's life and legacy will be celebrated on Monday with several events and community-service opportunities.

Village Hall in Sleepy Hollow will be closed, as well as Warner Library. Classes will not be held at the Public Schools of the Tarrytowns, Transfiguration School or Hackley School.

The Foster Memorial AME Zion Church at 90 Wildey St. in Tarrytown will hold its annual MLK Day service at noon. Residents who want to attend the popular service should arrive early to assure a seat is available.

The African-American Men of Westchester, along with the United Way of Westchester and Putnam, will sponsor the 11th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Legacy Youth Awards Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tickets to the event are $25 and can be purchased online.

The Westchester Library System's annual Literary Tea will kick off Black History Month at Abigail Kirsch's Tappan Hill in Tarrytown at 3:30 p.m. Author, musician and screenwriter James McBride will be featured. Tickets for the tea are $75.

Several volunteer opportunities are also available for residents wishing to take part in the national MLK Day of Service. Vist http://mlkday.gov to search for area projects.
