TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- A search is under way for the body of a person believed to have jumped from the Tappan Zee Bridge early Thursday morning.
Search boat and helicopters have been deployed in the search which began after police received reports by two witnesses (one on a tugboat and another on the bridge) who said they saw the person jump from the bridge at around 12:30 a.m., according to News 12 Westchester.
An abandoned car was found on the bridge, the report said.
The gender of the person who jumped has not been released. News 12 is reporting that state police think the person is a 36-year-old Irvington man who reportedly told his family he was planning to take his own life.
