Roads To Be Closed During Monday's Fireworks Show

Several areas of both Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow will be closed to traffic on Monday evening as the two villages host a joint fireworks show at dusk.

Tarrytown will close off H Bridge traffic to the riverfront. Sleepy Hollow will close Beekman Avenue west of Clinton Street. Officials will also be posted on River Street to stop traffic.

“What we normally do is we close it at Clinton Street once we start filling up with pedestrians in the area an all parking has been exhausted,” Sleepy Hollow Police Chief Gregory Camp said.

The only cars that will be allowed into the area will be local residents. Police will be closing off traffic because of the large influx of pedestrians they expect. Camp estimated several thousand people would attend the fireworks show.

Normally the streets are closed around 7:30 or 8 p.m., but it depends on the amount of people walking around. Camp said they wouldn’t be able to make the call until they see what the crowd looked like.

Police will hold off traffic until the streets are cleared of pedestrians.

This year’s fireworks show may see even more people as the Village of Irvington will not be hosting its own fireworks display. Irvington has urged its residents to attend the Tarrytown-Sleepy Hollow display if they wish to view fireworks.

We’ll be publishing video and photos from the fireworks display on Tuesday. Submit your own photos and videos by emailing them to mshamburger@mainstreetconnect.us.
