Quartet To Visit Sleepy Hollow Music Students

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Music students in the public schools of the Tarrytowns will soon get the chance to learn from professional musicians.

The Friends of Music Concerts recently awarded the school district a “Partnerships in Education” prize. The prize will bring the Amphion String Quartet to the district on Feb. 28.

Violinists Katie Hyan and David Southorn, violist Wei-Yang Andy Lin and cellist Mihai Marica will give a lecture and demonstration to all music students before teaching select master classes for string ensembles in the middle school and high school.

The Amphion String Quartet first performed in 2009 at the Yale School of Music. The quartet won the Concert Artists Guild prize in 2011 and will join the roster of the Chamber Music Society at Lincoln Center during its 2013-14 season.

The “Partnerships in Education” prize is awarded to one or two school districts in Westchester each year, bringing in professional musicians at no cost to the schools. The program is intended to supplement the schools' musical education.
