Pet Parade to March at Tarrytown Third Friday

Pets take center stage Friday night as Tarrytown Third Friday hosts its eighth annual Pet Parade.

“Calling all dogs, cats, birds, snakes, guinea pigs, ferrets, lizards, bunnies and their owners!” Tarrytown Third Friday’s website reads.

The parade, which Third Friday’s Greg Galloway said takes about 15 minutes, will start at 7 p.m. Owners and their favorite animals will head down Broadway, heading south. They’ll go across Central, then west on the north side of Main Street, crossing Kaldenberg and Main until they reach South Washington.

Don’t worry about all those pets in the road—Galloway said the parade route is all on sidewalks.

Pets will be judged in categories such as “Most Like Owner,” “Best Dressed,” and “Tiniest.” Local business owners will act as judges. One of those judges, Laura Haupt, has contributed prizes for each category. Haupt is the owner of Tarrytown’s Bark & Meow.

Galloway said the Pet Parade has been a Third Friday tradition, having been hosted since Third Friday was created. Jenifer Ross is the mind behind both Third Friday and the Pet Parade.

“She created the Pet Parade as one of the monthly themes, aiming to create fun events that make people happy and bring people out to meet and mingle on Main Street,” he said.

Pet owners can mingle before the parade with a group of pet-oriented businesses and organizations. They’ll be near T.F. Andrew, opposite McKeel. Third Friday’s also going to have pet games (including Bobbing for Hot Dogs). Galloway said anyone participating “should be prepared to get wet.”
