Ossining, Irvington Basketball Host Autism Classic

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – The elite Ossining High School and Irvington High School girls basketball programs will meet on the court this Sunday, when they host eight local girls high school basketball teams play in the Autism Classic at Irvington High School.

Section 1 Class AA champion Ossining will meet defending New York State and section 1 Class B champion Irvington in the featured finale at 5:15 p.m. Both teams were undefeated as of Thursday. The Ossining girls basketball program and its coach Dan Ricci have organized the tournament for three years to raise awareness and funding for autism research.

Rye will meet Kennedy Catholic at noon, Edgemont and Valhalla will tipoff at 1:45 p.m. and Carmel will face the Ursuline School of New Rochelle at 3:30 p.m.

Ossining junior Saniya Chong will lead the high-scoring Pride against a balanced Irvington Bulldogs team, which features Alexis Martins, Brittni Lai and Marley Giddins, a stifling defense. Irvington defeated Scarsdale in last year’s event.

The admission of $5 is good for all games and there will be a 50/50 raffle. The participating teams will also donate baked goods to be sold at the concession stands.
