GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- A 15-year-old girl reported missing in New York City on Sunday has been found and returned home, Greenburgh officials said on Wednesday.
Treia (pronounced TRAY-AH) Boozier ran off after an argument with her mother, police said. The incident occurred while traveling through New York City with Boozier exiting the vehicle in the area of The Jacob Javits Center at 655 West 34th St. in Manhattan.
Greenburgh Police Chief Chris McNerney confirmed that the Woodlands High School student had been located in the Bronx on Tuesday and was en route home to the Fairview section of Greenburgh with Detective Nick Parikka on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a Greenburgh police news release, Boozier was "located in the confines of the 47th precinct by the Greenburgh police special victims unit," about 2 p.m. on Wednesday.
"We've been successful in working as a community to help find other missing teens," said Greenburgh Supervisor Paul Feiner, noting how the Edgemont community helped spread the word about a missing teenage girl in January. She ultimately was found safe in a church near Grand Central Station after someone recognized her face from a "missing girl" poster distributed in Manhattan.
Earlier Wednesday, Feiner planned a meeting with town police and Boozier's mother before she called to cancel, saying she had just learned that her daughter was located in the Bronx.
"A big thank you to the Greenburgh police and the community for their help,' Feiner said. "The police gave this our highest priority attention. And, members of the community were starting to place posters of Treia around New York City and have shared Treia's photo on their Facebook and social media pages. We were planning to organize a community outreach effort. . . .placing hundreds of posters all over New York City."
