Mason's Lot Will Bring More Parking to Main Street

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – A new parking lot on South Washington Street will soon add more than 20 spots for Main Street shoppers and residents.

“It is my hope that the lot can be opened within the next two to three weeks,” Tarrytown Village Administrator Michael Blau said.

The new municipal parking lot, nicknamed the Mason's Lot, only needs lights, a parking meter pay station and signs before it can be officially open for business. Village officials had previously estimated that the lot would be open by the beginning of 2012.

Blau said the village expects lighting to be installed on Friday. A new parking pay station will also be installed on Friday in lieu of the traditional parking meters found in other municipal parking lots. Parking signage has been ordered, Blau said.

The new lot will feature pedestrian access to the Tarrytown YMCA, as well as another pathway to Main Street and a 6-foot high retaining wall.

Tarrytown residents were unsure whether the additional parking spots would help ease congestion for the area.

“Parking isn't really organized anywhere in Tarrytown,” David Raguso said on The Daily Tarrytown's Facebook page.

Fellow residents Liz Karkoff and Tom Reich said parking isn't as much of a problem people think it is—they just have to walk a little further.

“I think people forget about the lot on Broadway and McKeel,” Karkoff said. “That one usually has spots.”
