TARRYTOWN, N.Y. State Police have no new information on a man who jumped from the Tappan Zee Bridge early Friday morning, apparently to his death.
Tarrytown police received a call about a possible jumper in the water around 4:02 a.m. and dispatched firefighters, the marine unit and an ambulance, Lt. William Herguth said.
Herguth said State Police reported finding an abandoned car on the center span of the bridge, and the marine unit confirmed that a man had jumped from the bridge and was in the water. Published reports said the man died, but police did not confirm that.
Herguth said a local firefighter fell into the river during the recovery, but was not injured. He was taken to Phelps Memorial Hospital Center to be evaluated because the water temperature was chilly, Herguth said.
