Linda Rey is among the many people and organizations of Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Irvington who have taken to tweeting. Today she tweeted about the price of gas and coffee."Wow!! A feat!! I'm addicted to decaf! RT @Jenster26 I've been coffee-free 9 days and counting!"
Rey isn't the only local tweeter. Several local organizations are also on Twitter, including the Village of Irvington (@IrvingtonNY) and the Sleepy Hollow Chamber of Commerce (@SleepyHollowTT).
Rey works for the Sleepy Hollow-based Rey Insurance and tweets under that name (@ReyInsurance). She joined Twitter in July 2009, but says she didn't really "kick off" until attending her first tweet-up in November 2009.
"After that, I got into a rhythm of posting stuff that I either had an interest in or that was fun for me," she said.
Twitter is a resource, Rey says, to "help create visibility, awareness, exposure and enhance branding and advertising."
Rey checks Twitter daily. She typically tweets 10 to 20 percent about the insurance business. The rest is "anything and everything else."
"I think people want to know the people behind the business, just like discovering the wizard behind the curtain in Oz." she said.
