TARRYTOWN, N.Y. Ten libraries in the Westchester County Library System will receive a total of $23,493 in grants to support free art programs for older adults, the library system announced Tuesday.
Lifetime Arts, Inc. will hand out grants to the Briarcliff Manor Public Library, Montrose Library, Mamaroneck Library, Mount Kisco Library, Yonkers Riverfront Library, Ruth Keeler Memorial Library, Scarsdale Public Library, John C. Hart Library, Somers Library and Warner Library.
Programs sponsored by the grants will include collaborations with local teaching artists to present free workshops and events in music, literacy, performing and visual arts for all county residents.
"All of our programs are funded through our Friends Group, so we are truly grateful for additional funds that bring innovative programming to our community, Warner Library Director Maureen Petry said.
Lifetime Arts President and CEO Maura O'Malley said the organization looks forward to supporting another 10 programs this year. The group hopes to help improve quality of life for older adults and promote positive aging through arts. Library residencies paid for by the grants will foster mastery and promote meaningful social engagement two key ingredients for positive aging, according to the group.
