Assemblyman Tom Abinanti (D-Greenburgh/Mount Pleasant) sponsored a bill that authorizes the Natural Heritage Trust to manage the park’s endowment.
Currently, the funds are managed through the state comptroller’s office.
“This legislation ensures that a generous donation remains a lasting investment,” Abinanti said in a press release. “Transferring the endowment to the Natural Heritage Trust will generate additional income to provide much needed revenue for the upkeep of the Preserve.”
The trust will be able to consolidate the endowment, along with recent new donations from the Rockefeller family, and increase investment opportunities, according to Abinanti.
State Sen. Terrence Murphy (R-Yorktown) sponsored the bill in the Senate.
Other supporters have included the Alliance for New York State Parks and the Friends of the Rockefeller State Park Preserve.
Now, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has the option to approve or veto the bill.
