Lawrence Ave. Frustrates Sleepy Hollow Residents

Lawrence Ave. was the subject of ire at Tuesday’s Board of Trustees meeting, with public comments bringing up two issues related to the street.

Donald Caetano noted that the auto repair shop at the end of the street had been parking seven to eight vehicles on the street for a number of years.

“It has to be looked into,” he said. “I’ll stop it myself, even if I have to go to jail.”

Caetano urged police to keep ticketing the cars who are parking illegally, saying it would help them learn they can’t park there.

Caetano and fellow resident Mario Belanich also urged the village to make Lawrence Ave. a one-way street.

“Lawrence Ave. is very bad,” Belanich said.

Part of the problem, Belanich noted, was that only one vehicle can drive on it at a time even though it was a two-way street because parking is available on both sides of the street. With both sides taking up space, the street is reduced to one lane that serves both directions.

“We cannot eliminate parking,” Belanich said, but told the board that the street should be made one-way.

Sleepy Hollow Mayor Ken Wray said the board would add a discussion of the street to a work session.
