Assemblyman Denny Farrell said the state should name the new Tappan Zee Bridge after former Governor Mario Cuomo, who served three terms, according to LoHud. Cuomo's son Andrew is currently governor.
Farrell made his remarks Tuesday at the Governor's Mansion in Albany at a ceremony marking his retirement. Other lawmakers have proposed naming it after Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, Pete Seeger and Purple Heart recipients.
The new bridge is on track to open in 2018. The current Tappan Zee Bridge is named after Malcolm Wilson, a former Yonkers resident, who briefly served as governor.
