IRVINGTON, N.Y. An Irvington woman has died after sustaining injuries from a fire in her Hudson Avenue home.
Angelina M. Smercak, 83, died Sunday at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, three days after she called 911 to report the fire that started around 9 a.m. on Friday. Police said Smercak was seriously burned in the fire.
Smercak's family will receive friends at a visitation on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., according to an obituary published by the Dwyer & Vanderbilt Funeral Home. A funeral mass has been scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Church in Irvington.
The internment will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery. The family is requesting donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the American Diabetes Association in lieu of flowers.
Smercak was born Oct. 19, 1928 in Irvington and raised in North Tarrytown (now Sleepy Hollow). During her life, Smercak worked as a school secretary, legal secretary and receptionist.
She loved spending time with family, vacationing in Spring Lake, N.J. and cooking Italian food, Smercak's obituary reads.
Smercak is survived by a daughter, Patti (Casey) Cordon, brother Albert (Eleanor) Scogna, sister Anne Mastandrea, grandsons Christopher and Ryan Cordon, and eight nieces and nephews.
Smercak is predeceased in death by her parents Agnes (Lupi) and Anthony Scogna.
