The group is sponsoring its own “I Love My Park Day” cleanup at the state park May 4 as part of a statewide parks beautification campaign.
The second annual event boasts more than 70 state park cleanup sites where residents can volunteer their time and effort.
“I am pleased to again invite New Yorkers to participate in this annual volunteer initiative to help clean and spruce up these great state assets, which play a significant role in our tourism industry and economy,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in statement.
Volunteers will work from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rockwood Hall to remove invasive weeks and add various plants to the Rockwood Hall Foundation area. Organizers say the event is appropriate for people ages 13 and up, with supervision required for teens.
Volunteers should bring water, lunch and garden gloves.
To participate in the “I Love My Park Day,” register by calling 914-631-1470 Ext. 11 or online at the state's parks and trails website.
