“It’s exciting that we’ve finally got to the point of breaking ground,” said Tarrytown Village Administrator Michael Blau at Friday morning’s groundbreaking ceremony. “We’re no longer negotiating.”
The facility will be built by Hudson Harbor developers National Resources on Village-owned land at the former recreation department offices site and next to the current Tarrytown Senior Center on West Main Street.
The pool facility is just one part of what National Resources has promised the Village as part of its agreement to build the Hudson Harbor luxury waterfront residential complex. Once the facility is built, it will be turned over to Tarrytown and run by its parks and recreation department.
National Resources, the largest private owner of Hudson River waterfront property in the metro region, will build an 82-foot six-lane competition pool and a 30-foot kiddie pool.
Adjacent to the pools will be a facility that houses men’s and women’s locker rooms and bathrooms; an exercise room and fitness center; separate offices for both the recreation department and pool; a conference room; and vending area.
Stone, reclaimed timber and cedar will be used to build the facility, matching the adjacent Hudson Harbor development.
The plans for the $3 million facility have changed over the years. It once was envisioned as an indoor aquatic facility, according to River Journal.
Hudson Harbor President Joe Cotter said they are looking to start the pool’s foundation as soon as possible and the pool may be open for the 2015 season.
“I don’t know if we’re going to make if for next season, but we’re going to try,” Cotter said.
