IRVINGTON, N.Y. Newcomer Mark Gilliland and incumbent Walter Montgomery were elected to the Irvington Board of Trustees on Tuesday night, according to unofficial results from the Westchester County Board of Elections.
Gilliland received 39 percent (635 votes), and Montgomery received 34 percent (554 votes), with all of the votes counted. Incumbent Rocco Rasulo received 27 percent (446 votes).
Village Justice Desmond Lyons was re-elected with 841 votes (100 percent) with all of the votes counted. Lyons was running unopposed on the Democratic, Republican and Independent party lines.
Three candidates ran for two open seats on the Board of Trustees. Trustees serve two-year terms.
Montgomery is the CEO of a strategic-communications consulting firm who has lived in Irvington for 26 years. He has served for five years on the Board of Trustees, as well as six years on the Planning Board and six years on the Board of Education. Montgomery said he decided to run for re-election because he wants to continue to make Irvington a better place.
Gilliland is a landscape designer and graphic designer who has lived in Irvington since 2008. Gilliland said he decided to run because he wanted to take a more active role in village issues such as waterfront rezoning, the Mercy College expansion and other proposed developments.
Rasulo is a food service design consultant who has lived in Irvington for 25 years. He has served on the Board of Trustees as well as several other community committees and organizations. Rasulo said he decided to run for re-election because he wanted to work together for a common cause.
