Creepy Carnival Brings Out Sleepy Hollow Kids

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – The jack o' lanterns were biting on Saturday afternoon at Warner Library, but sometimes it took two people to fish them out of the water.

A soccer player and a robot worked together to fish one jack o' lantern out. The robot did the hard part, pulling it out of the water. The soccer player did the slimy part and took it off the fishing line.

Both were smiling the whole time, but that may have been because there was a prize waiting at the end of the activity.

Warner Library hosted a creepy carnival on Saturday, bringing out games and prizes for costumed kids. The upstairs meeting room was packed with kids and parents who were out having fun before they marched in Tarrytown's ragamuffin parade. Other kids skipped the parade entirely to stay at the library's carnival.

“Our Creepy Carnival is a mix of games of chance, crafts, worms in dirt and refreshments,” Children's Librarian Patricia Cohn said, adding that they also had face painting.

Kids at the carnival got a string of tickets to play each game. They received a prize after trying games such as fishing, horseshoe or darts.

“It's a lot of fun,” Cohn said.
