Costumed Locals Run Throughout Sleepy Hollow

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – A group of convicts started running down Beekman Ave. after the first horn blew. They continued even as the sixth and seventh sound of the horn flew past their ears and a leashed dog ran parallel to them.

The sight would have been unusual on a Saturday morning if it weren't for the other 700 costume runners participating in the same race including a vampire waitress, banana and the Three Blind Mice (“See How They Run!”). Rivertown Runners hosted its second annual Sleepy Hollow 10K Saturday to raise money for the RSHM Life Center's after-school program.

Rivertown Runners develops running events to benefit local charities throughout the area. This year's race saw more than double the number of participating runners from last year's 300 runners.

“It's neat that our community comes out participates in a fun race,” Rvertown Runners Vice President Ruppel said. He could not say how much the organization had raised so far by the time of publication. “We haven't tallied it up yet. When we finish we'll present the center with a check,” Ruppel said.
