Concert to Benefit Sleepy Hollow's Phelps Hospital

 

IRVINGTON, N.Y. – The fourth annual Spirit of Jazz benefit concert will be held at the Irvington Town Hall Theater on Oct. 23 to benefit Phelps Memorial Hospital Center.

Proceeds from the concert will go towards Phelps Hospice, a program that helps end-of-life patients and their families. Services of Phelps Hospice are provided in patients' homes, hospitals or health care facilities.

WBGO Radio's Sheila Anderson, known as the “Queen on Hang,” will host the jazz concert, which will last from 3 to 5 p.m.

Performers include jazz singers Melissa Walker and Tessa Souter.

Walker has performed with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra at the Duke Ellington Centennial Celebration and opened for Ray Charles. She has also performed at the Kennedy Center Women in Jazz Festival, The Jazz Standard and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

Souter has performed at the Rochester International Jazz Festival, among others. Souter's music combines jazz with flamenco, Brazilian, African and Middle Eastern music.

Several jazz musicians, including pianist Oscar Perez, bassist Ron McClure and drummer Willard Dyson. The “Songs and Strings” concert will also feature violinist Alan Grubner and cellist Jennifer Vincent.
