2,002 Tarrytown, Irvington Residents Without Power

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Irvington Mayor Brian Smith advised residents in a village-wide email to stay off the roads and enjoy the “Autumn Wonderland” after several inches of snow blanketed the area a few days before Halloween.

“Heavy snowfall when there are still leaves on the trees can create more damage than a hurricane,” Smith said.

Con Edison estimated that 672 residents in Tarrytown and 1,330 in Irvington were without power because of the storm. Power is expected to be restored by 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday.

Both Tarrytown and Irvington cancelled their Halloween parades because of the weather. Warner Library was filled on Sunday afternoon with residents who had lost power and needed to charge their electronics.

Tarrytown Police reported some roads were taped off in the village on Sunday, but most roads were passable. Irvington Police reported West Sunnyside Lane, High School Hill, Havemeyer Road and Mountain Road were closed on Sunday due to the storm.

Smith encouraged residents to stay off the road while crews worked to clear tree limbs and downed wires.
