Sister Loretta Ruvo, 68, of Marymount in Tarrytown

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Sister Loretta Ruvo died May 27 at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. She was 68. 

In June, she would have celebrated 49 years with the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary. Ruvo taught at Istituto Marymount, Via Nomentana and Marymount International School, and Villa Lauchli in Rome, Italy. She was principal of the kindergarten and elementary school of Istituto Marymount. 

Ruvo was regional director of the Bronx Catechetical Office of the Archdiocese of New York. She also served as director of formation for the Eastern American Province. 

While living at the formation house in Bronx, N.Y., she also had a part-time ministry at Holy Rosary Parish. At the end of her term, she continued in formation work as province vocation director and chair of the province formation team. 

Ruvo is survived by a brother, the Rev. John Ruvo of New Rochelle, and a sister, Marie Ruvo of Hartsdale. She was predeceased by her parents, Pasquale and Filomena Bracuto Ruvo, and a brother, Pat Ruvo. 

Services will be held at Marymount Convent in Tarrytown. Visiting hours are from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in White Plains. Coffey Funeral Home in Tarrytown is in charge of arrangements.
