SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. Rose M. DeMilia died April 27 at her childhood home in North Tarrytown. She was 93.
DeMilia was a former president of the North Tarrytown Sleepy Hollow Seniors.
She was born Oct. 15, 1918 to Antonio and Emanuela Addonizio DeMilia. She became the caretaker of her family at an early age. In 1936, she graduated from North Tarrytown High School and then attended Burrough's Business School.
DeMilia had a 40-year career at General Motors in the payroll department, retiring in 1980. She then worked as the assistant to the North Tarrytown Building Inspector and retired again in 2000. She was a member of the Business and Professional Women of Westchester and served the Westchester Board of Elections as village chair.
She was very involved with the Boy's Town of Italy for many years. She was a member of the North Tarrytown Sleepy Hollow Seniors, serving three terms as president and many terms as treasurer. As a longtime parishioner of Immaculate Conception Church in Sleep Hollow, she worked the bazaar and was a member of the 300 Club.
DeMilia enjoyed many hobbies, including knitting, crafting afghans and ponchos, bowling, traveling, cooking and baking. Though she dreamed of owning her own restaurant, she settled for creating elaborate themed holiday dinners, especially on St. Patricks Day, for her friends and family. She also loved theater.
She was predeceased by seven brothers and two sisters. She is survived by two sisters, Faye Mickewich of Briarcliff Manor and Yolanda Mallery of Sleepy Hollow; and many nieces and nephews, including her niece, god-daughter and caregiver Maria Rose DeMilia-Powers.
A funeral service was held Monday at Immaculate Conception Church. Arrangements were handled by Coffey Funeral Home.
