Couple Saves Date 11-11-11 For Tarrytown Wedding

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – When Mahopac residents Toniann Deluca and Christian Henrich finally picked a day for their wedding, they called the DoubleTree Hotel a year in advance to make sure they could get the date they wanted: 11-11-11.

“It was just perfect,” Henrich said. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime date.”

The couple admits many others probably had the same idea to get married on a day with repeating numbers, but for them, the date has even more meaning because it's Deluca's birthday.

“I like the whole date because it's my birthday,” Deluca said. “What better way to spend your wedding day... on your birthday?”

Henrich agreed. “It wasn't just picking 11-11-11 because it was cool. It actually had meaning,” he said. “There's not a lot of people who can say the same thing.”

The couple met at work in Croton in 2007, where they became fast friends. Deluca said the two were best friends who were “literally inseparable” for two years until they got together.

Henrich proposed in April 2010 when he moved in with Deluca into the apartment below her parents' house. He used their signature drink: a Jagerbomb.

“While I was moving in, we decided to have a couple of drinks,” he said. “I had the shot glass ready: it was two glasses in one, and the ring was in the bottom of the outer glass."

Deluca took a drink, heard a clinging and asked 'What is that?' That's when she noticed the ring, and Henrich went down to one knee.

Deluca then raced to tell her parents upstairs, where she found the couple's entire family waiting as planned.

“As soon as she found the ring, she went running upstairs right into a surprise party,” Henrich said.

“It was very nice,” Deluca said.

The couple said Friday's wedding will be part birthday celebration and part wedding celebration. Don't expect two cakes though.

“We can't handle two cakes at once,” Henrich joked.

Henrich said Friday's wedding will be extra special because he's marrying his best friend, which Deluca concurred.

“It makes it all the more better knowing that,” she said.
