Chelsea Gallery Features Tarrytown Artist Alan Jacobson

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Tarrytown artist Alan Jacobson says several of his oil paintings to be featured in a New York City exhibition this month are works that are a blend of "reasoned layering and unpredictable explosions."

Tarrytown resident Alan Jacobson's paintings will be part of the Agora Gallery's "Portals of Perception" exhibit.

"Typically, I apply paint thickly and quickly, pushing myself to get the paint out in a torrent; but I also may return to the work many times to build on each 'draft,'" Jacobson said in a press release.

The Agora Gallery in Chelsea announced Jacobson will be featured in their “Portals of Perception” exhibit running from Wednesday, Jan. 16, to Feb. 5. An opening reception will take place on Thursday, Jan. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m.

The gallery describes Jacobson's portraits of isolated human figures as “riveting, intimate and compelling.” He uses oil on plywood.

The Agora Gallery is located at 530 W. 25th St. It is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
